Talk:$Hello
Comment: The <nick> NMDCHub sends in $Hello can be different than the nick submitted in $ValidateNick. DC++ and NMDC do not support this though.
NMDC v1 does support changing its nick via the first $Hello. Try entering as NICK and then nick. The second client will be given a different nick in $Hello. --GargoyleMT 11:54, 3 Aug 2005 (EDT)
If they did, it would be a nice way to force e.g. [ISP]nickname for a user. Like:
Client sends to Hub, $ValidateNick fusbar|
Hub replies, $Hello [BBB]fusbar||
thereby forcing ISP into my nickname

If DC++ or NMDC supported this, they would be in trouble when the other people's $Hello -commands started pouring in. We must remember that $Hello is sent also to every user when a new user joins the hub.

Actually, the login process isn't complete until the server sends the Hello, so you can easily treat the first Hello differently from the coming Hellos (I'm not sure, but I think DC++ already does this, right?)
